Description
Pumpkin, oat flour & Ceylon cinnamon. The one that exists in both lines. Same formula, different label, different bucket height. The foundation flavor — herd-approved and pack-approved.
What is Basic Batch used for?
Basic Batch is the flagship cross-species foundation blend in the Farmily — the flavor that exists in both the Improve Equine and Improve Canine lines because it works the same way for both. For dogs, it’s traditionally associated with supporting digestive comfort (pumpkin and oat flour are long-standing gentle-gut ingredients), while Ceylon cinnamon adds traditional glucose-metabolism support. It’s also the single best treat base in the Canine lineup — mix with water and flaxseed, bake, and you have clean, homemade, one-ingredient-list treats your dog will actually chase.
Why pumpkin for dogs?
Pumpkin is one of the most recognized gentle-digestive whole foods in companion animal care. It’s high in soluble fiber, low in calories, and dogs recognize and accept the flavor almost universally. Veterinarians have traditionally recommended pumpkin as a gentle digestive option for decades.
Why oat flour?
Oat flour gives the blend body and transforms it into a workable base for homemade treats. It’s a gentle, generally well-tolerated grain that provides soluble fiber (beta-glucan) and has a neutral palatability profile dogs accept easily. Oat flour is also one of the safer grains for dogs sensitive to common grain triggers — but every dog is different; introduce gradually.
Why Ceylon cinnamon specifically?
Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum, the “true cinnamon”) is traditionally associated with supporting balanced glucose metabolism. We use Ceylon — not Cassia — because Ceylon has a fraction of the coumarin content found in Cassia cinnamon, making it the responsible choice for daily use in dogs, especially smaller breeds where body weight limits accumulated intake. Every Improve Canine cinnamon product uses Ceylon only.
How is this different from the Equine Basic Batch?
Same ingredients, same ratios, different packaging and dose scaling. The Equine version (Basic Batch — Improve Equine) is sized for 1,000 lb bodies and primarily used as a water bucket additive. The Canine version is sized for dog body weights and primarily used as a food topper, lick-mat base, or homemade-treat base. Same formula, different bucket height.
Is Basic Batch safe for metabolic dogs?
Basic Batch contains no added sugar, no added salt, no copper, and no fillers. Pumpkin is low-glycemic. Oat flour contributes some naturally-occurring carbohydrates, so portion control matters for dogs managing weight or insulin sensitivity — use typical top-dress amounts rather than large servings. Always consult your veterinarian before starting any new supplement for a dog with diagnosed conditions or on medication.
How do I use Basic Batch with my dog?
Four common use cases — this is the most versatile Canine flavor for homemade uses:
- TREAT BASE — combine with a little water, a tablespoon of flaxseed, and roll into small rounds. Bake at 325°F for 15 minutes. Clean, homemade, one-pocket dog treats with a transparent ingredient list.
- FOOD TOPPER — sprinkle over kibble or wet food for ongoing digestive and metabolic support
- LICK MAT — mix with water or plain yogurt, spread on a lick mat for slow-feed enrichment
- ENRICHMENT FREEZE — mix with water, freeze into puzzle toys or silicone molds
